Letting Go X 12th Street. Why do we focus on what we can't control? This is a question I asked myself recently. People around me kept telling me to let go what I couldn't control - don't focus on it. It's easier said than done. I'm that person who has to have a plan and it work. When I don't have a plan or it doesn't work it stresses me out. It's a bad habit I've grown into. Most of the time my thought process turns into over thinking, but on the wrong things. For example, I would focus on what I needed and how I didn't have it. What I wanted and how could I get it. Where I thought I would be at this age compared to where I actually am. I thought I would’ve been further along in my life by now. There’s a quote by Woody Allen, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

  

Just yesterday I was reflecting on that quote and the question I asked earlier. Instead of asking, “why do we focus on what we can’t control?” I asked myself “why do I focus on what I can’t control?” It’s terrifying to have to look in the mirror and face yourself with the truth. All kinds of emotions are released when being honest with yourself, but its okay because its something we all have to do at some point. Then it hit me. As if a switch went from being off to on. Within in minutes I understood what everyone was telling about letting go. When you hold on to what you can’t control you bring negativity to that thought or situation. How? By having your emotions involved. This is like putting a hold on God, and not having faith in what he has for you. Letting go of situations that are out of your control are faith test. Trust and know that God wouldn’t leave you, and trust the journey he has for you. I quickly changed my mindset once I realized that not letting go was hurting me. Let go and move forward so God can do what He needs to do for you. Have a wonderful weekend!
